No. You can create and sign a document without one. Some documents have a field for it because Swedish counterparties expect it, and there you can enter a coordination number (samordningsnummer) or a passport number instead. The one place it genuinely matters is registration with an authority — a marital property agreement filed with the Swedish Tax Agency, for example — and we tell you on the page when that is the case.

No. This is the single most common blocker for people who have recently arrived, and the answer is no. E-signing here works with email verification, so it functions with a foreign passport and from outside Sweden. BankID is offered for those who have it, because it is convenient, but nothing requires it.

You need one to save a document and to sign it, because both mean we are holding something that belongs to you and we have to know it reaches the right person. Creating an account takes an email address and a password. You can browse everything, and start filling a document in, before deciding.

Yes, and people regularly do — a landlord letting out a Swedish apartment from abroad, an heir dealing with an estate from another country, a founder signing a shareholders' agreement while travelling. Nothing in the process requires you to be physically in Sweden.

No. It is in Swedish. This is deliberate: the document is read by Swedish counterparties, banks, housing associations, employers and, if it ever comes to it, a Swedish court. An English version has no independent legal standing here, and handing over an English document where a Swedish one is expected creates exactly the ambiguity a contract exists to remove.

Yes. Every document has a fixed-price option where one of our lawyers writes or reviews it for you. For anything genuinely complicated — cross-border estates, a real business sale, a contested custody arrangement — that is the option worth taking.

For most agreements, yes. Swedish contract law does not generally require a particular form, and the EU eIDAS Regulation prevents a signature from being denied legal effect purely because it is electronic. The exceptions — wills above all — are listed on our e-signing page and flagged on the documents they affect.

Yes. What decides which law applies is your connection to Sweden — where you live, where the property is, where the company is registered — not your citizenship.

It depends on the document. A contract about a Swedish property or a Swedish company keeps working. Inheritance is the one to watch: under EU Regulation 650/2012 the default is the law of the country where you were habitually resident when you died, so moving can change which country's rules govern your estate. If you have a will, that is a reason to have it looked at again after a move.

Usually yes, but how depends on the type. A will can be replaced at any time. A prenuptial agreement can be revoked or replaced, with a new registration. A contract with another party normally needs that party's agreement to change. Your documents stay in your account, so you can start from what you already have.
