What a instalment plan does
Restructures an existing debt into agreed instalments: amounts, dates, interest and what happens if a payment is missed. Useful for both sides when the alternative is collection proceedings.
In Sweden this document is called Avbetalningsplan. It is worth learning the Swedish term: it is what a bank, a housing association, an employer or an authority will ask you for, and searching for the English name alone will often turn up rules from another country that do not apply here. The rules come from The Promissory Notes Act, skuldebrevslagen (1936:81), and the questions you answer while creating the document are the ones that statute makes relevant.
When you need one
- A debtor cannot pay in full but can pay over time.
- You want to avoid the cost and delay of collection.
- You want an acknowledgement of the debt alongside the plan.
If none of these quite describes your situation, that is worth taking seriously rather than working around. Ask us in English and we will tell you honestly whether this is the right document, a different one, or a case that needs advice instead of a template.
How it works
- Sign in and answer the questions. An account is required. Some templates require a Swedish personal identity number; the builder asks one question at a time and shows the finished text updating as you go.
- Look up anything unfamiliar. The questions are in Swedish. Our English glossary of Swedish form terms covers the words the forms actually use, and you can ask us in English at any point while you fill it in.
- Pay once, at the end. 295 kr, including VAT, only when the document is finished and you have seen it.
- Sign it online, free. The creator starts from an account; invited signers receive personal links and complete their verification steps. BankID signing is not live and remains test-only.
Being straight about language: this page, the guides and our support are in English. The builder itself and the finished document are in Swedish because that is how this service is currently delivered for use with Swedish counterparties, banks and authorities. That is not a universal rule that every Swedish agreement must be written in Swedish: the accepted language can depend on the document, its form requirements and the recipient. If you would rather not fill in a Swedish form, ask us and one of our lawyers will draft it for you from an English conversation, for a fixed 1 490 kr.
Questions
Will the instalment plan be in Swedish or English?
Our current service produces the finished document in Swedish so Swedish counterparties, banks and authorities can work with it directly. Swedish law does not impose one universal language rule for every instalment plan, and an English agreement or translation is not automatically without legal effect. What is accepted can depend on the document's form requirements, the agreed governing language and the recipient's own requirements. Everything around the document is in English, and if you would like an English explanation of your specific finished document, ask us and we will walk you through it.
Which law applies to a instalment plan in Sweden?
The Promissory Notes Act, skuldebrevslagen (1936:81). The template is designed for a Swedish-law situation. Where you live, where property is located and whether another country is involved can affect jurisdiction, recognition and tax, so cross-border cases should be checked individually.
Is it valid if I am not a Swedish citizen?
Citizenship is usually not the deciding factor. This service is for a instalment plan governed by Swedish law and connected to Sweden. Cross-border property, residence, tax or family circumstances can change the analysis, so ask for individual advice if more than one country is involved. You do not need a Swedish personal identity number to create the draft.
What does it cost?
295 kr including VAT. That is the whole price: no subscription, no per-signature fee and no charge for e-signing. If you would rather have one of our lawyers draft or review it for you, that is a separate fixed price of 1 490 kr.
How do we sign it?
Online, free, and from anywhere. Everyone who has to sign gets a link by email, verifies themselves through the ordinary e-signing flow, and signs. BankID is currently limited to a test environment and is not offered in the production flow. You can also print it and sign on paper if you prefer.
What if it turns out to be wrong for my situation?
Tell us and we will correct it at no cost. If a document does not fit your circumstances, the honest answer is sometimes that you need advice rather than a template, and we will say so — you can book a lawyer instead of buying the document.
