What a power of attorney does
Authorises someone to act for you in a defined matter: a bank errand, a sale, an authority, a signature. Written scope, clear limits and an end date, so the person you authorise can prove what they may do.
In Sweden this document is called Fullmakt. It is worth learning the Swedish term: it is what a bank, a housing association, an employer or an authority will ask you for, and searching for the English name alone will often turn up rules from another country that do not apply here. The rules come from The Contracts Act, avtalslagen (1915:218), and the questions you answer while creating the document are the ones that statute makes relevant.
When you need one
- You are abroad and someone must sign or collect on your behalf.
- A relative needs to deal with a bank or an authority for you.
- You want the authority strictly limited to one specific matter.

Being straight about language: this page, the guides and our support are in English. The builder itself and the finished document are in Swedish, because a Swedish power of attorney has to be in Swedish to work with Swedish counterparties, banks and authorities. Will the power of attorney be in Swedish or English?
The finished document is in Swedish. That is deliberate: a Swedish power of attorney is read by Swedish counterparties, banks, authorities and, if it ever comes to it, a Swedish court, and a translation has no legal standing on its own. Everything around it is in English, and this page explains in English exactly what the document says and does. Which law applies to a power of attorney in Sweden?
The Contracts Act, avtalslagen (1915:218). The template follows it, and the questions you answer are the ones that statute makes relevant. Swedish law is what governs the document regardless of where you are from or where you signed it.
Is it valid if I am not a Swedish citizen?
Yes. What matters for a power of attorney is Swedish law and the connection to Sweden, not your citizenship. You do not need a Swedish personal identity number to create the document, and you do not need Swedish BankID to sign it, because e-signing works with email verification as well.

How do we sign it?

Swedish BankID is offered but never required, which is what makes this work for people who have just moved here or who sign from abroad. You can also print it and sign on paper if you prefer.
What if it turns out to be wrong for my situation?
Tell us and we will correct it at no cost. If a document does not fit your circumstances, the honest answer is sometimes that you need advice rather than a template, and we will say so — you can book a lawyer instead of buying the document.
